On January 13, 2021, the father of a nine-year-old San Francisco boy named Pierce shot and killed Pierce, and then himself, on the father’s custodial time.
Lesley Hu, Pierce’s mother, started Pierce’s Pledge when her friend and my colleague, Monica Mazzei, decided to require all her new clients to disclose any weapons they own and lock them in a third-party location.
Through my board work with the Center for Judicial Excellence—a domestic violence prevention and judicial accountability nonprofit org—I have come to know Lesley and, through her memory, Pierce. I have signed Pierce’s Pledge, and my Retainer Agreement for matters involving child custody now requires clients to initial the Pierce’s Pledge paragraph, promising they will disclose to me and store any weapons they own.
I invite you to attend the first annual Pierce’s Pledge FUNraiser, from 6:30-10:00 p.m. on September 28, 2023, at Mister Jiu’s Restaurant (28 Waverly Place, San Francisco). If you cannot attend, I encourage you to donate. Pierce’s Pledge is doing important work toward preventing future filicides like the one that left Lesley to grieve Pierce forever.
You can read more about Pierce’s Pledge and the September FUNraiser on the Pierce’s Pledge website.
Thank you for your gifts.
